Red Chameleon

Color is the most relative medium in art. Approaching her art with a vital newness and a vigor in exploration, Lucia Pica presents her first Chanel Makeup Collection, shades of red, disarming in depth, as a statement for beauty that is exhilarating. Poised at the helm of Chanel’s Creative Makeup and Color Design, Lucia’s Le Rouge Collection N°1, a product of her refined eye injected with fantasy and imagination is a palette truly meant for interpretation. In London for the launch of Lucia’s collection, I had the exquisite opportunity to gaze into the realm of the creator, to see and feel the array of influences and the process of exploration that leads to a collection of makeup which advances the idea of face as art. Crimson pigment billowing and blossoming in water, rays of light against skin, thin translucent cherry plastic floating in air weave into a collection whose possibilities are vast, sublime and timeless. Products with a luscious subconscious and a polarizing presence, in divine alignment with the Chanel brand.

Makeup that gives life, Lucia urges us to instead of continuously applying under eye concealer after a long night, generously rouge the cheeks to command the attention. Le Rouge Collection Powder Blush is my new best friend. Soaking up Lucia’s advice and influences, taking in the eclectic and still somewhat raw texture of her resident East London, enchanted by Keith Sonnier’s atmospheric light baths within the art nouveau bones of Whitechapel Gallery, one of Lucia’s favorite haunts. Taking the former art encounter along with Cory Arcangel’s striking show  of digital pop deconstructions at Lisson Gallery, I return to New York thoroughly inspired under Lucia’s red spell to reinterpret Le Rouge Collection N°1. Laying it on thick, I enter into the allure of Pierre Paulin, an exhibition of rare original works by the iconic french designer at Galerie Perrotin. Enveloped in the free form groove of Paulin’s tulip red “Déclive” sofa I feel a rush from the effects of radical convention breaking. Wear Chanel Le Rouge Collection N°1 and feel empowered.

To create the first deconstructed pop lush look, makeup artist Samantha Dametta used a wash of Chanel Ilusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow in Rouge Brûlé on the eye, Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profond for bitten cheeks. Layer on the burgundy lash with Dimensions De Chanel Mascara in Subversif and convey a lucky attitude with Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Rouge Tenation.

Emit vaporous drama, for the second look Samantha created a warm radiant eye using Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Candor et Experience intensified and smoldered with Chanel Ilusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow in Rouge Brûlé and Chanel Ilusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow in Rouge Contraste, Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profound for an eminent red cheek, Dimensions De Chanel Mascara in Subversif lash with a crimson twist, and a stain of Rouge Allure Lip Colour in Rouge Charnel for effect.
