How to exist in art deco tropics by the sea. The intention is a call to action, to be a participant, to travel to see art in order to take a piece. An ephemeral fling masked in connectivity. A message in a bubble, scent is present, the color and texture are for you a misty mystery. Suspended interactions between art, architecture, design and clothing offer vast and various openings for a diverse audience to seek and engage. What could be more urgent in our world’s climate than this, it is at the very core of the images I enact and create.
To take a beat and be immersed in the strangeness inherit to each space/experience is to feel a New Spring. The interdisciplinary approach of architect/artist duo Studio Swine in collaboration with a carte blanche from COS has created an entirely fresh breed for the second iteration of New Spring in partnership with Design Miami. The first was realized in Milan during Salone del Mobile 2017. On the fringe of the Art Basel Miami Beach fair, The Temple House, a Lawrence Murray Dixon designed deco landmark sets the scene for Studio Swine’s latest interactive art intervention. Not without drama, inviting arches open into a glowing white space with sweeping center piece, an elegant bubble bearing tree. Undertones of nature but in the club, I go for an odd dip on the roof in my COS puff. Bobbing with unstable optimism, the hope New Spring floats is what I’m after, activating idea realization in me and exponential others.
