A silver spoon in golden section spirals into divine form figure space. Davide Balliano has created a galaxy of perfect proportions at Tina Kim Gallery for me to slip into Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2017 elemental shapes. Looking in, graphic lines and sharp shoulders haze away, solid void relationships reveal a classical core inscribed with the aura of a new mystic. The minimal geometries of Balliano’s paintings bear the conceptual weight of their erasures as Lagerfeld’s sculptural silhouettes are embedded with embroidered layers, masterwork of the Lesage. Parts of a whole alternating and oscillating in space, the pieces seem to mesmerize each other and extend into an iridescent third dimension. The hex of Balliano’s work and Lagerfeld’s Chanel Couture is in the eye of the artist, the ability to push past formal identity and gaze into the heavenly abyss of prismatic abstraction.
Evoking the underlying otherworldly, makeup artist Samantha Dametta used Lumières de Kyoto Blush Harmony for a subtle glow of mystery. A graphic sweep using Écriture De Chanel Eyeliner Pen Effortless Definition in Noir is an elegant outline for a heightened moment of vibrant red-pink, a shade from Coco Code Blush Harmony. A velvety flat nude lip takes on a plaster like finish with Rouge Allure Velvet Intense Long Wear Lip Colour in Libre, classical and reminiscent of the surrounding painterly surfaces.
