Limitless is the breadth of Marcel Wanders’ designs. Imbued with the element of surprise and charged with wonder and whimsy, Wanders creates magical objects meant to stir our sensibilities. Concentrating his imaginative powers here on a special collection of eyewear in collaboration with Safilo, suggestively named Unseen. Behind the clean elegance and pristine finish of my chosen matte white and matte black frames, is an exquisitely detailed world of Wanders’ signature fantasy. This enchanting dichotomy, ever present in Marcel Wanders work brought me to the vocabulary of Ellsworth Kelly. Known for his sharp flatly painted overlapping shapes, Kelly’s delicate drawings, outlines of bodies and flora, exist in beautiful contrast. Impassioned by the desire to take Wanders by surprise, I embarked on the idea of reinterpreting Ellsworth Kelly’s black and white paintings as I gave myself over to the ecstatic power of a Marcel Wanders’ fairytale. Through the lens of Unseen fresh wonder is revealed.
